Project Launch

A nonprofit or social good organization reaches out with a data-related need — from data strategy to storytelling. We follow up to understand their goals, challenges, and any available data or context.

Once the brief is finalized, we announce the new project to our volunteer community and host a virtual kick-off session to answer questions and build momentum.

We Work With the Data

Volunteers begin working on the project, individually or in small teams — depending on the scope. Projects might involve anything from analyzing impact data, designing a data roadmap, preparing a dataset, building a dashboard, or crafting a compelling data story.

Collaboration is encouraged! Connect with others via our Slack community to team up or seek support.

Volunteer contribution are submitted. and we encourage volunteers to share their work (and process) on social media using the project hashtag.

We deliver impactful solutions

Each nonprofit typically receives a diverse range of submissions — whether reports, dashboards, strategic frameworks, or data stories — often 30–60+ unique contributions.

They review all entries and select their top 5 based on their internal needs and preferences.

The selected volunteers are invited to present their work at a live showcase event, celebrating the impact created together.

Where possible, yes. While we can't guarantee detailed feedback for every submission, many nonprofits share insights on what stood out and how your work is being used. On occasion, we organize sessions where volunteers can seek feedback from other volunteers

Q: Can I use my work in my portfolio?
Definitely! These projects are a great way to build your portfolio and showcase your skills — especially in purpose-driven work. A few projects may be under an NDA, and our charity partners will guide us on usage in portfolio.

Q: Which tool do I use?
Any! Our approach is tool-agnostic. You’re welcome to use the tools you know best—whether that’s Tableau, Power BI, R, or something else. If you’re looking to try a new platform, that’s encouraged too. It’s all about using the right tools to create impact.
