Across the globe, incredible organizations are doing meaningful work, but too often, their impact remains hidden in spreadsheets and disconnected systems.
When we founded Data ChangeMakers, the goal was simple but ambitious which was to close the gap. We wanted to help build data and analytics capacity for nonprofits desperate for insights. Talented data experts looking for purpose were ready to volunteer with us.
Since our launch in mid 2025, the response has exceeded our wildest expectations. Today, we are thrilled to share a visualization of that journey, beautifully captured by one of our very own community members.
Visualizing Our Story
This illustration isn't just a drawing; it’s a testament to collective action created by Shazeera Ahmad Zawawi.

Shazeera is not just a talented sketchnote artist; she is a dedicated volunteer within Data ChangeMakers who has contributed to our projects. We are incredibly lucky to have volunteers like her who bring not only their data expertise but also their unique creative talents to help us tell our story.
Her artwork perfectly captures the "before and after" of our mission taking the hidden, messy reality of non-profit data and turning it into clear, visible impact.
The Numbers Behind the Art
As Shazeera’s visualization highlights, our community has grown rapidly. We are immensely proud of our numbers:
53 engaged volunteers: Data experts and enthusiasts from around the world who have joined our cause.
1,533 hours contributed: That is over 63 full days of data wrangling, analysis, and data visualization gifted to non-profits.
Real World Impact
While the hours are impressive, the real story lies in the partnerships. The sketchnote highlights just two of the incredible organizations we’ve had the privilege to support in 2025:
No Kill Colorado (United States): Our volunteers skilled in data wrangling and data visualization helped make sense of the complex datasets to advocate for saving animals lives.
Bhumi (India): After working with their own data for years without seeing the "big picture," our volunteers helped them optimize their data and amplify their work in education and civic welfare.
A Shared Learning Experience
As the illustration notes, this is a two-way street. While the organizations gained crucial insights, our volunteers also benefit from this learning experience. They applied their skills to real world problems where the outcome influenced social good.
