About the event
From prompt to production: Building D3.js dashboards with Claude Code
A Data ChangeMakers Case Study
How much can "Agentic AI" actually do when it comes to complex data visualization? In this practical deep dive, Steph Swierenga shares the "behind-the-scenes" journey of building a high-impact nonprofit dashboard from scratch.
Using a real-world project as a case study, we explore the reality of working with Claude Code. We won't just look at the successes; we’ll examine the limitations of the "Agentic" approach and why human-in-the-loop design is more important than ever.
Key Takeaways:
The Workflow: Step-by-step demonstration of using Claude Code to scaffold and iterate on D3.js.
The Velocity Gap: Where AI 10x’d the build process and where it struggled with complex logic.
The Human Element: Why design ethics, domain context, and analytical rigor remain the pilot’s job, not the autopilot's.
About the Speaker:

Steph Swierenga is a data strategist with experience leading enterprise data initiatives in the financial sector. He previously led data strategy at Canada’s federal deposit insurer, where he focused on using data to support decision-making at scale and strengthen financial system resilience.
Today, Steph takes a hands-on, “learn by doing” approach to emerging technologies, building dashboards and applications using AI-driven tools. As a Data ChangeMakers volunteer, he works closely with nonprofits to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights.
